Cortemaggiore

Cortemaggiore is a small but splendid Renaissance village in Lower Piacentina.

Founded in 1479 by Gian Ludovico Pallavicino, it preserves the Renaissance urban structure intact in its historic centre, on which the most important civil and religious monuments stand.

In the 15th century Cortemaggiore was the flourishing capital of the ancient Pallavicino State, one of the largest and richest Lordships of that time.

Even today its straight and spacious streets, delimited by large porticoes, the Piazza Grande, overlooked by the Town Hall and the Basilica of S. Maria delle Grazie, the Churches, whose bell towers soar majestically towards the sky, the Palazzo Pallavicino, the Municipal Theater and other majestic buildings in the Historic Center bear witness to the ancient splendor of the past, highlighting the artistic and architectural beauties of this village.

Every first Sunday of the month from February to December with over 300 exhibitors from all over Italy, the antiques and things from other times market enlivens the streets and squares of the center of the Renaissance town.
